Visual Supports
Goal
Promote understanding, independence, and self-regulation with clear visual cues.
How
Use visuals to support skills like routines, task management, and emotional regulation. Try visual schedules, “First, Then” boards, or calming strategy posters. Model how to use them when the learner is calm and engaged so they become helpful reminders during tougher moments.
Context
Visual supports can be used at home, school, or in therapy to improve comprehension, reduce anxiety, and boost independence—especially helpful for neurodivergent learners who may struggle with verbal instructions.
Tip
If a visual works well, share it with the team! Using the same support across settings makes it even more effective and consistent for the learner.
