Rapport Building

Building Rapport

Creating and maintaining positive relationships with learners

Goal

Establish a genuine, trusting relationship that is the foundation of everything.

How

Dedicate time to get to know learners changing interests and motivations, engaging with them in activities they enjoy.

This is not a time for teaching, but rather “connection-building.”

Context

Building rapport should be a continuous effort made by all who support the learner, including teachers, paraprofessionals, service providers, and family members. This approach may look different across the ages, but it is always an essential. It could also be beneficial for teachers to set up opportunities for learner with similar interests to build rapport together.

Tip

Take time to learn about your learners’ special interests. This can help you more genuinely connect with them.
