Problem-Solving
Problem Solving
Teaching independence in finding solutions
Goal
Improve independent problem-solving skills across a variety of situations.
How
Guide the learner through each step in the problem-solving process while emphasizing their collaboration and eventual independence.
Context
Use these steps each time a new problem arises. The process is the same whether it is a small problem (e.g. running out of notebook paper) or a bigger problem (e.g. being bullied at school).
Tip
When the learner provides a solution suggestion (no matter how silly!), always play it out (in real life or via conversation), so they can learn on their own to determine if it was an effective solution or not.
