Peer Praise Notes
Peer Praise Notes
Goal
Encourage positive behavior and build classroom community through peer recognition.
How
Choose 2–3 peer praisers each cycle—ideally a mix of learners who consistently show expected behaviors and those who are still developing them. Teach them to give out Peer Praise Notes when they see classmates demonstrating specific target behaviors (see Resources for printable notes). Each praiser gives out 6 notes per day. At the end of the week, hold a random drawing from all the notes earned—five winners are selected, and the peer praisers also get to attend the reward event.
Context
Best for schools, group therapy, or community settings where learners interact regularly. Works well for learners who can spot positive behavior and complete praise notes independently.
Tip
Include both role models and learners who are still developing expected behaviors as peer praisers. This creates a balanced, supportive environment and gives all learners a chance to grow socially and feel successful.
