Movement Breaks

Movement Breaks

Goal

Boost focus, behavior, and emotional-regulation.

How

Add 1–5 minute movement breaks throughout the day—between lessons or during transitions. Try stretches, jumping jacks, or yoga. Keep it quick, fun, and simple. Let learners join in leading to increase engagement.

Context

Movement breaks help all learners, especially those who struggle with attention. Research shows physical activity improves focus, behavior, and academic performance.

Tip

Time breaks based on the learner’s attention span (typically 2–3x their age in minutes). Add extras when you see restlessness, helping learners reset and return ready to learn
