Goal

Encourage their engagement in expanded communication.

How

Their turn! Set up your ACE planning just as before, but now add in an expectant pause. Throughout the activity, model using AAC, create a communication opportunity, then pause! If they use AAC independently, celebrate! If not, continue teaching through modeling.

Context

Use this strategy once the learner has shown interest and possibly started copying some of your modeled language in Teaching: ACE.

Tip

Follow their lead! Use this strategy during activities that are of high interest to them. It’s helpful if you choose activities that have multiple parts or steps so that it’s easier to create communication opportunities.
